Dr. Allen Weiss was CEO of Naples Community Hospital from 2001 - 2019 and is currently the Chief Medical Officer of Blue Zones.

Ben Franklin’s adage that “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” originally referred to fire safety, but now is most applicable to our nation’s health.  Keeping people healthy by encouraging wellness and healthy behaviors has many tangible benefits, including improved productivity, lower costs, increased happiness, and longer life expectancy.  Eighty percent of Americans consume very little healthcare and 80% of illnesses are self-induced.  As 5% of the population consumes 50% of the nation’s health care resources, successfully decreasing the rate of self-induced illness by making the healthy choice the easy choice will have a profoundly positive effect on health care and the overall economy.

The Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) moved from 73^rd to 1^st in the nation from 2015 to 2019 and returned to 1^st this past year according to the Gallup National Health and Well-Being Index.  Collier County was again ranked 1^st of 67 counties in Florida this year according to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.  Overall, Collier County’s life expectancy increased 0.6 years across the socio-economic spectrum from 2015 to 2020.  More information on the above good news will be shared with everyone with a focus on what you can do for your friends, family, and you.
