Supporting Local Nonprofits and Harvard Undergrads Through Internships

The Harvard Club of Naples (HCN) Internship Program provides vital financial support for Collier and Lee County students, offering hands-on work experience and valuable exposure to the nonprofit sector.
To date, more than 41 students and over 25 local organizations—including Artis–Naples, the Naples Botanical Garden, and Naples Community Hospital—have benefited from the program. Click to see all the nonprofits our interns have worked with.
The club began sponsoring summer internships for local Harvard undergraduates nearly 20 years ago. Funded entirely through member dues and donations, the program has provided more than $150,000 in student stipends.
Rebecca Lambert '92 stepped into leadership of the program 18 years ago. “We’re one of the initiatives directly supported by our members' generosity,” Lambert said. “It allows me to connect with students and build a real sense of community. When I was an undergrad, my local Harvard Club in Massachusetts created that same anchor for me. From the day a student is accepted, it marks the beginning of a lifelong connection.”
That sense of continuity is central to the club’s mission. “Before COVID, we hosted a lunch at the Port Royal Club,” Lambert recalled. “We brought together recently admitted students, current undergraduates, and alumni applying to graduate school. Sitting around that table and hearing about their experiences was incredible—you could just feel the energy and potential in the room. We haven’t had a gathering of that size since, so I’m hoping to organize one again this upcoming winter break.”
The host organizations benefit just as significantly from the collaboration. “The feedback from our partner organizations has been wonderful, and it reinforces the positive impact Harvard alumni and students can make locally,” Lambert noted. “Hosts consistently report positive experiences and frequently ask to take on more students each summer.”
